What you will do:

Assisting in design of geochemical sampling campaigns.

Coordinating external research collaboration efforts.
Supervising MSc and PhD students.
Monthly reporting and writing of high-quality technical reports.


We endeavor to ensure mobility within the company and this position will involve some travel and short periods working in other countries. The position is a one-year fixed-term employment, full-time Monday to Friday and based in the Boliden Office. You will report to Manager Exploration R&D.

What you bring:
We are looking for a PhD in Geoscience with a minimum of 10 years' experience. Academic Post-Doc experience is meritorious. You should be familiar with common industry software. This position requires proficiency in both written and spoken English. You will be expected to be a skilled communicator and be result-oriented, flexible and capable of working independently and as part of a team, with the aim of contributing to the company's development. An EU category B driving license, or equivalent, is a requirement.

Björkdalsgruvan is located at Sandfors outside Skellefteå and is one of Northern Europe´s largest mines for the extraction of gold ore. As responsible for the underground production geology department, the role involves personnel responsibility, where you lead and are responsible for the department´s employees. You ensure that geological information is collected and compiled to maintain stable underground production. You are also responsible for the level control and that safety regulations and risk assessments are drawn up and complied with, which includes responsibility for the work environment. In addition, you are responsible for the planning of production areas within a time frame of 1-4 weeks.

Your Responsibilities

Your main tasks are:

The Bigger Picture

You will come to a culture characterized by safety, cooperation and optimism. As Underground production Geology manager, you belong to the Geology department and have personnel responsibility for 9 competent
employees, geologists, geotechnician, Infill drilling planer and project geologists. You report to the head of/Cheif of the entire geology department and work closely with colleagues from the Exploration and Drilling departments.

Your working hours will be daytime, Monday - Friday with the possibility of hybrid work 2 days a week.

• At least a bachelor´s degree, preferably a master´s degree in Geology or equivalent.
• Previous experience from the mining industry is required experience, preferably from a production geologist role under ground.

Om tjänsterna

Som geotekniker kommer du att hålla till i vårt preplabb. Där är den huvudsakliga arbetsuppgiften kommer att vara att ta hand om alla prover och borrkärnor och dokumentera fortlöpande. Hålla ordning och reda samt se till att alla inventarier som används är i ett arbetningsbart skick. Du kommer även att bistå vid den geotekniska aspekten vid kärn- och kaxkartering.

Som provtagare under jord kommer du att  ta s.k. knackprover (chip samples), enl. geologs anvisning i underjordsgruvan för att sedan h antering av stenprover och borrkax på Geolab. En stor del av jobbet  på Geolab går till att diska/städa, hjälpa geoassistenterna med

borrkärnorna, hantering av pallar, lådor till borrkärnor.

 

Kvalifikfationer

Som geotekniker ser vi gärna att du när noggrann och jobbar effektivt. En bra kommunikation värdesätts då ett tätt samarbete sker med andra geotekniker samt samarbete och nyttjande av tjänster med ett flertal avdelningar inom Björkdalsgruvan. 

Som provtagare bör man vara noggrann och hålla god ordning för att undvika kontaminering av prov. Man ska ha ett omfattande säkerhetstänk och god fysik. Du bör också ha vana av att använda microsoft Excel. truckkort meriterande men inget krav då vi kan utbilda på plats.

 

För båda rollerna är det meriterande med truckkort men inget krav. Några medarbetare är engelsktalande och det är därför väsentligt att du behärskar både det svenska och engelska språket. 

Körkort är ett krav för båda tjänsterna.

Job duties
Exploration activities to be carried out in the Skellefteå field, northern Sweden. Work duties will be geological exploration work. The tasks are normally geochemical sampling, field reconnaissance, bedrock mapping and drill core logging, as well as compilation of information and reporting.
Work can be physically strenuous where you will need to carry field equipment and samples in variable weather conditions, as well as walk through rolling forest terrain. You will work both independently and in a group. Boliden will arrange for accommodation during the employment.

About the positions

We need your help to support the Geology Department during the coming holiday period. The main tasks of a geologist are mapping, sampling and mark up drifts underground. As an Exploration Geologist, work with core mapping and sampling is included in the tasks, and some work in the field may also occur. The core mapper maps the diamond core from the underground drilling. The shift form for production geologist is 7/7 and daytime work, the other services are Monday-Friday.

The work requires that you can write technical reports in English. Fluency in Swedish or a willingness to learn is desired.  Om tjänsten

Vi behöver din hjälp under några månader framöver. Huvudsakliga arbetsuppgifter är kartering och provtagning av gavlar under jord samt utsättning av malmsalvor och strossar. Uppdatering/inmatning/kontrollering av insamlad data i Surpac, Geospark och Excel. Du gör även malmbedömningar av sprängda salvor. Du har nära samarbete med mättekniker, provtagare och ingenjörer.

Skiftformen för produktionsgeolog är 7/7. Vikariatet är till 28 februari med möjlighet till förlängning.

To the Exploration department Ore Reserves and Project Evaluation in Boliden.

Boliden Mines staff function has approximately 300 employees and includes, among other departments: HR & Sustainability, Finance, Technology, Business Development and Exploration.
Work duties
The Ore Reserves and Project Evaluation Department in Boliden works with developing our exploration assets into operating mines. Resource estimations and project evaluations are important steps in that work.
You will work on projects in close cooperation with geologists and engineers from Boliden’s mines as well as from exploration and technical departments. Geostatistics, resource estimations as well as other types of studies are important elements in the work that is carried out independently and often as projects. Your work requires regular travelling under normal conditions. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, some work now is done through on-line meetings and from home. The position is currently a one year temporary employment with Boliden as home base but it is likely that there will be future possibilities to apply for a permanent position.
Education and qualifications
We are looking for a graduate resource geologist or a geologist with working experience. We work with Datamine, Leapfrog, Deswik Cad etc. Knowledge or a strong interest to learn these programs is essential. You have the ability to initiate and manage projects, and have good interpersonal skills. A driving license, category B (for car), is mandatory. Visa mindre

Om tjänsten
Som geolog för borrplaneringen inom produktionen underjord, i Björkdalsgruvan. I tjänsten planeras borrhål som hjälper oss både att bestämma riktningen på framtida orter och lutningen på själva malmkroppen. Vidare innefattar rollen även att göra venmodeller för specifika zoner i gruvan samt den dagliga kommunikationen med våra diamantborrare, ingenjörer, mättekniker och geologer.

Arbetsuppgifter
Arbetsuppgifterna består av geologiska arbeten på kontor och i fält och omfattar borrkärnskartering, geologiskt tolkningsarbete, sammanställning av information och avrapportering. Ena positionen innefattar även visst ansvar för prospekteringsprojekt.
Du kommer att arbeta både självständigt, i grupp och i olika projekt. Tjänsterna avser visstidsanställning på 1 år med möjlighet till förlängning. Tjänsterna är heltid med Boliden som stationeringsort.
Utbildning och erfarenheter
Vi söker två universitetsutbildade geologer varav en med minst fem års erfarenhet från gruv- och prospekteringsbranschen. Tjänsten kräver goda kunskaper i svenska och engelska, både muntligt och skriftligt. Du förväntas vara bra på att kommunicera och motivera, säkerhetsmedveten, resultatorienterad, flexibel samt kunna arbeta både självständigt och i grupp, och arbeta proaktivt för företagets utveckling.
